I keep this blog for friends, family and students in Japan& the U.S.
Since Spring '07, Zen and Taka moved to California full time for Zen's basketball career. I'm in California most of the time right now too. Almost every day I go to help my Grandmom. She was born in 1919. Taka and I also get to work for Uncle Lynn's landscaping company. Santa Cruz, California. As beautiful as ever. However I still feel homesick for Japan~~

The High School KAKUJOGAOKA
I must admit, uniforms make less pressure to impress peers with name brand clothes- in school.
This school, for the past five years, they have had me teach about eight classes every winter. The students do get better and more outgoing every year.
Still, for example there was one girl, and after three classes I finally asked her- "Haven't I taught you somewhere else before" and she smiled and reminded me she'd been at one juku (cram school) we've been working for. There you have typical Japanese not making it a point to single themselves out!
I will try some day- to get the kids to NOT all make that peace signing! That became a popular pose about...15 years ago? When they didn't know it really meant PEACE. Now, at least, they know.
Funny, I just noticed the boys (and teachers!) don't feel obliged to make that pose along with the girls!!

Wow- I go to this school now, and you posted this only a month ago- do you still teach there?
If so, guess I'll see you around.
You'll know which one is me, I'll be the non-Japanese student!
